Talents

I have been thinking about talents recently. Growing up, and even recently, when people ask, "What do you do?" or "What are your talents?" it was hard for me, because I think we often go to things like singing, dancing, drawing, other forms of visual art...things that are easily seen and enjoyed.

However, I realize a talent of mine is teaching. I enjoy it, I look forward to whatever it may be, from teaching RA class, to teaching at church, to teaching a friend how to sew, to teaching Health when I was in college. I have heard positive things about my teaching, and so I feel that although I can't really hang it up, or sing my talent, it is indeed there.

There are SO many un-showable talents. Just because you can't show them, doesn't mean they are worth less, or less important, or not as good as other ones. As we look for our talents on the spectrum of talents, I think we will be pleasantly surprised with the things we have been blessed with in our lives.

What are your talents?? :)

I have never been asked out loud what my talents are. I think it's a sensitive subject more often than not, for the reasons you listed here.

On the other hand, I *have* been asked if I have any secret or hidden talents on get-to-know-you things (for wards and classes) which I think is silly, since almost no talent is a secret. :)

It's hard to not answer that question with a truck load of sarcasm. My talents are finding chocolate...sleeping...rambling...
I love that you are a good teacher and now want to make a point to be around when you get those opportunities. Talents are an intriguing thing and yet sometimes very elusive. A sincere answer to your question would be listening. But I don't know if I've been developing it to be more than it was 10 years ago. Your fantastic Kristen.

Well, I'll answer honestly. I have a talent for loving people for who they are and finding the good in them even if they don't see it themselves. I am a very nurturing person, I like to take care of people and I'm good at it. I am talented at working with children and I enjoy it thoroughly. I am good at making people smile. I am good at being positive despite set backs. The kicker is that these were once weaknesses of mine. :)
